Donald Trump’s rise as president elect of the United States of America considered as a political miracle was highly followed in Africa for two main reasons.
First because of America’s influence in the world and secondly because Africans were keen about who takes over from the first African American president Barrack Obama.
“I know he’s a tough guy, and with the current global threat, especially terrorism, a lot of ISIS there, I think that Donald Trump stands a better chance to defeat this enemy,” one observer said. “People never expected it like that but it is because of God. Maybe God would wish to finish impunity in the whole world, we wish him the best of luck he should finish the impunity,” another added.
Hillary Clinton was tipped favourite to win the race. Many too in Africa had thought she was going to become the first female president of the United States. Some female supporters feel bitter things turned out differently.
“We are really waiting. What we expected has not happened. We were waiting for the first woman to be the president in the whole world, in fact from the most powerful country in the world. But now, it hasn’t come out the way we expected, “ a female supporter from Kenya told AFP.
The US president elect Donald J. Trump takes over from outgoing president Barrack Obama on January 20.
From there many will be waiting to see how things unfold from the Trump angle as he lays out a new vision of America’s relations with Africa.
